Guangzhou Overview
Located in the heart of the flourishing Pearl River Delta, Guangzhou is the capital city of Guangdong Province and the most important hub in South China. The city is home to some 10 million people and covers an area of around 7,400 square kilometers. When the gods flew away in the wind, the 5 goats they left behind them were turned into stone. For this reason, Guangzhou is known as the 'Goat City'. Its other nicknames include: Sui city ('the Rice-Ear City'), and 'the Flower City' because of the very pleasant climate that results from its location in the Tropic of Cancer. Guangzhou has been a renowned commercial center and an important trading and transportation route since the time of the Qing Dynasty. Once the starting point of the Silk Road, Guangzhou remains a forefront city in 21st Century China's economic revolution and is one of the finest examples of the new China at work. To this day, the words 'Made in Guangdong' are synonymous with best quality.
